2009 - A Review

Elliot Jay Stocks recently wrote a post about his 2009 & goals for 2010 and it was a thoroughly good read. Elliot (in case you didn’t know) is a rather talented web design chappy, one of the ‘big boys’ in my eyes and one who I do look up to.

Last year he wrote a similar post outlining his goals for 2009 and it was interesting to read what Elliot wanted to achieve in 2009 and now to find out what he has achieved! He completed all his goals except one. These weren’t small goals either.

2009

It made me think what my goals for 2009 where in terms of designing and I do have to say that I can’t honestly remember. I know I did want to up my work rate and have since Feb 2009 been actively designing client sites for pretty much most of the year in my spare time, which has been good for me and has certainly come in handy with the arrival of our little one.

Another goal during 2009 was to gain a bit more experience with WordPress". I done this by starting a pet project of mine, UKG★MIX which was built on WordPress. Funnily enough, the theme is based on Elliot Jay Stocks Starkers theme (Starkers is a wordpress theme with all styling removed so it’s a working blank canvas).

2010

I do again, want to up the work rate – even though 2009 has been pretty good. The next goal is similar to other designers like myself; build up my personal brand. Doing this will tie in with the first goal.

I think that is the main emphasis for this year. I’m also going to continue reading & learning (I wish 24ways was a year-round website!) & picking up new skills. I’ve got a couple of other personal projects I want to get up & running but they can wait.

I’m feeling quite positive about 2010. I’m looking forward to the challenges it will set and will relish each & every opportunity!

What do you plan on getting up to in 2010?
