As I sit here typing this, reminiscing about the last year, relaxing in the glow of our xmas lights, and as this year, and indeed decade draw to a close, everything about my life is completely different to what it was 10 years ago, as I’m sure yours is too!
I’m sat here tapping away on my laptop in my flat, My son to the left of me asleep in his chair, a cup of coffee to the right of me & my wife asleep in the bedroom. None of these things were here 10 years ago… in fact, 3 of these things are barely a year old!
I met my girlfriend (now my wife) back in 2002 and we instantly clicked. We both DJed & had a passion for music, we both liked a good laugh & a film, and more importantly, we both liked each other.
It took me a while but I proposed to my wife (on one knee!) on a beach in Majorca in the summer of 2007. It was about 7ish in the evening. The beach was deserted, the sun was setting and all we could hear were the waves rolling up over the sand & the faint bassline from a few bars in town playing club music. It was rather bliss. Fortunately, my soon-to-be-wife said yes!
We were married in the October of 2008… on my wife’s birthday too (double celebration). Less than 2 weeks after we married, we completed on our first home (we had rented before, but this time – it was ours) & spent a frantic 2 weeks packing, moving & unpacking.
A month later and we were expecting our first baby! December 5th 2008 is when we found out my wife was pregnant, and on a warm summers afternoon in August ’09, my wife went into Labour. At 4am the next morning, Oliver was born!
So as you can see, the last 2 years have been a whirlwind – New wife / house / baby!
This hasn’t been the only change in the last 10 years. I’ve had 3 jobs ranging from Corporate Actions through to Estimating – which is what I do now. I’ve given up smoking, I’ve gained good friends and I’ve lost good friends & family (RIP Jimmy & June) In my spare time, I design & develop for the web (which I was doing 10 years ago too – but I did take a break!) & I still DJ for my own amusement.
I love how my life has turned out and wouldn’t change it for the world! How has your life changed in the last 10 years?
Oh, and for the record – 10yrs ago, I couldn’t stand coffee. I hated the stuff… and now I thrive on it & can’t seem to function without it!… and on that note, time to put the kettle on!
